An area leader is just someone registered on the forum who has been selected, or has volunteered to talk with new volunteers, to give information about where their "area" is, see below for details, and also information about who new volunteers can contact, and, area leaders can also answer questions about being a citizen on patrol.

An area, or quadrant, anything like that, is a section of the city small enough for two-way radios to communicate with each other clearly, and also gives an area to generally stay in. You are not bound to that area, if you see something, by all means check it out if you wish, but you may not be able to keep radio contact with all the people in your "zone" (Yes, another term that means the exact same thing), if you venture beyond your area.

What area, quadrant, zone, or sector you wish to patrol in, is entirely up to you. If you want to jump between multiple, that's fine too. We'll be experimenting with radio frequencies over time, but for the most part, all of Sarnia will probably be on the same frequency, so it won't matter where you are, if you find something that would need more people to be nearby, you can still call for help just the same.
